Has anyone been caught out with cheap Chinese imitation products?

I have just purchased a pair of Jewel Bose Speakers – but how do I know if they are genuine or not?
I have been bitten once before: I paid AUD $270 for a jacket off Ebay that purported to be North Face Goretex – but a year later, it has virtually fallen apart . When inspected by a local outdoors store, it turns out to be a cheap nylon coat. Its not Gore-Tex and its not North Face either – even though the appearance of the branding is identical (apparently you have to be really careful with anything claiming to be ” North Face”)
