Will regular store bought icing last in the heat?

March7

I’m ordering cupcakes for my wedding, but I have to order gluten free cupcakes due to me having celiac disease. The icing that comes with the cupcakes will melt in the heat. My wedding reception will be outdoors in mid-April in the south. If I use regular store bought icing to ice them myself, will it last or will it melt? I assume it will be ok because they put so much junk in there so it can sit on a shelf and in warehouses forever.

I am a cake decorator. The only icing I believe that will hold up is one that has meringue in it. Any icing that has a shortening or butter in it won’t make it in the heat. Those icings from Duncan Hines, Pillsbury or Betty Crocker, aren’t stable enough. A homemade butter cream icing might work if you can display it in a cooler shady spot. Here is the recipe I use. http://www.wilton.com/recipes/recipesandprojects/icing/bcream.cfm
