A question about growing amaryllis outdoors?

I started an amaryllis outdoors this spring. The foliage has grown steady and is quite beautiful. I kept the package that it came in and reread it, and it said that the flowers appear before the foliage. Is mine a dud? I haven’t seen any inkling that it’s even trying to form a flower stalk. Has this ever happened to you?

p.s. I’m in zone 7. I already know I’ll need to dig it up in the fall and store it through the winter. Just letting you know you’re not talking to a gardening newb, just an amaryllis newb:)

it’s fine -don’t dig it up. as you prep the garden for fall, treat it like the other plants. cut down the greens as low as you can, mulch well, and wait till the next season.

All the amaryllis I have flower after they have developed fine strapping leaves.
