Travel tips/info/South America?

So, let’s say I want to go to South America is February for two weeks. I’m not sure if I want a totally laid back trip, or one where I can exersize my athletic abilities and love of the outdoors. I’ve budgeted $10,000 for me and one other person to go on this trip.
A. Where is good places to stay and why?
B.Waht are good recreational activities?
C. WHere are good places to dine?
D. What type of special clothing and gear should I bring with me?
E. How can I reach my destinations throughout this two week times?
and
F. What do you think my budget will be for everything? (i.e. food, transportation, lodging, recreational activities, ect.)

The only place I have been to in that region is Costa Rica which is pretty awesome for outdoor activities. They have beaches in your into that kind of stuff as well as hiking, zip lining, ATVing, basically anything you could imagine. So you could be laid back for a week and then do outdoors the next. Lodging can be extremely cheap (like under 5 dollars) but basically anywhere you go in South or Central America will have cheap places to stay as well as really reasonably priced nice places (I once read that the Ritz in Chile was around 180 a night). So I think you will definitely be set wherever you go with 10,000 dollars. Hope this gave you some ideas.
