My best friends mom has cancer and is going through Chemo Therapy. I want to do something nice for her and buy her an outfit that would be breathable for outside summer weather. She’s huge into gardening and she has the most beautiful backyard I have ever seen. Because of her Chemo, she has to keep her skin covered up. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has shared a similar experience and has any ideas for some light weight types of clothes that could allow her to stay cool and protected while she does her gardening.

I had a hemorrhagic stroke. People suggested in the past that clothes with velcro would be easiest. Also this is my own thought-one zipper-easy, yes? A caftan would be gorgeous and gloves would be handy, I imagine. A nice turban if her hair is falling out, breathable outfits to wick away sweat like tencel or rayon, also maybe a straw hat, sickness of any type makes the patient more liable to dehydration.
I know this sounds odd, but check out REI Sports, EMS Sports or another true sporting goods store that specializes in clothes for hot weather (safari’s, etc.). There are brands available that have “wick-a-way” that keeps the heat off you and still covers you up to protect you.
Just a thought.
LL bean has lots of high SPF breathable clothing that should be what you are looking for. Also, you should offer to help with her garden too as I am sure she would love having it kept up but might not have the energy/time to do so!
I am actually one of the people that shaved their head before it all fell out. And I loved my long hair. I went to the fabric store and pick out my own.material and made my own bandannas I am going to have fun with it. I bought me some Dallas Cowboys material and some plain black to start out. Something light is good to cover the head for the summer time or a hat is also nice.
