Anyone know what kind of x commando he is?

they are two different types of shows…
    -mears is more informative
-grylls shows the worse of a “survival” situation
all and all they have two different types of

shows and you can learn from both. mears is also more bushcraft compared to surviving in Vietnamese jungle…

Judging by this video Bear seems like a nice enough guy but – and I suppose this is down to the fact he is on ITV that the shows he makes are a bit more the tabloid side of survival in that he has to make his adventures more outlandish to cater for the viewing masses. Whereas Rays shows tend to be the more fact based, information style of the BBC.Having said all that they are both cool .

    @xxmushdogxx

it´s not so much toxic, if it´s done for a short period, and it may save your life, if you can´t find any other water supply, But no question about him (Grylls) making money. But that´s not forbidden.

  15. Avatar March 17th, 2010 at 3:59 pm amazingbrimble Says:

Well the ideas of the two showers are different. Bear Grylls is showing the survival skills needed if you get into the most extreme of situations, where as Ray Mears is showing the more mellow side of survival! He shows you how to go camping and use different equipment whilst out in the bush. Bear Grylls uses things that are found in the wild (plus his knife/flint and anything he is wearing) Mears uses actual metal camping equpiment so it is impossible to make a comparison between the two shows!

@Craggs95 Doubt it, Mears is a black belt in Judo.

@survivingwilderniss He says hanging bivouac. A bivouac is a type of shelter. People use these on Mountain expeditions etc.

Grylls is in it for the money, he deliberatly gets himself into trouble to show off, i always remember him drinking his own urine, which is toxic and i bet he knew it, but again he drank it for the tv rating.

Mears on the other hand, is a real survival guy. He isnt there to show off, every one of his shows is calm and collected and he never goes over the top. He is the rel deal :)

  19. Avatar March 17th, 2010 at 6:35 pm colddrake80 Says:

@survivingwilderniss bivouac: basically a shelter. Probably a hammock of some kind with mosquito netting and some kind of tarp for cover from the rain. They seem quit popular with bushcrafters in UK. Knowing Grylls his is probably wicked expensive since he must make good money.

  20. Avatar March 17th, 2010 at 6:44 pm survivingwilderniss Says:

at 3:30 he says something like a hanging bibawack or so…
    what does that mean?

  21. Avatar March 17th, 2010 at 7:43 pm Craggs95 Says:

Bear could OWN Ray Mears in a fight lol

  22. Avatar March 17th, 2010 at 8:07 pm xKorin94 Says:

Ray Mears is more of a bushman then Bear, whereas Bear is more of a survival guy. I love them both, but Bear’s shows are more interesting to me. It kinda gets boring when Ray goes into detail on old survival stories.

One of the best bushmen on t.v. check out his videos if you want to acctually learn stuff. :)

I’d rather be stuck on a bus with Grylls than Mears, but I’d rather be stuck in the wild with Mears than with Grylls.
