He’s 80yo and likes to go to the coffee shop with his buddies every evening. So I thought I’d get him a gift card there, but they don’t sell them online and my dad (and the coffee shop) are 5 hours away from me! He used to be an avid sportsman, so he has all the magazines/catalogs and equipment he wants. He likes the outdoors. But at his age, he doesn’t do much that’s "outdoorsy" anymore. Socks seem like a cop out. He doesn’t wear ties. What else can I get him?
Here are a couple ideas for you.
Beer
Beer making kit.
Cigars
Hip Flask
Books
A briar smoking pipe
Pipe tobacco
Cigar cutter
Smoking Jacket
Power tools

I am looking for a camera to take ordinary pictures of people, pets, outdoors etc. to put on the computer, internet. Do I print these off the computer to get my own snapshots or take them to a store? I want to share pics with grandchildren that live in another state. I have never owned or used a digital camera. My computer has only usb ports, windows xp, 2006. Thanks for your help.
First, I recommend cameras with an optical viewfinder. The LCD viewfinder is almost useless in daylight. If you plan to take pictures outside in the daylight, you will need the optical viewfinder. Canon is the only company that has some compact models with the optical viewfinder. The Canon SD780 IS is an excellent example.
Second, you can print them with your computer printer, take them to a store, or send them in over the internet and get prints back.
Third, digital pictures is a great way to share with distant relatives.
Fourth, the USB ports are perfect for downloading your pictures, just follow the instructions in the manual.
Fifth, enjoy.

what would be some websites and is this type sports wear actually worth the price?
Of course we all want to be warm and continue exercing throughout the winter w/out all the bulkiness of a big coat, blobby boots if possible.
I do go to a gym however prefer the outdoors and don’t wanna miss out another season!
hey thanks!
XC ski gear! It will keep you warm as long as you are active. Footware has to be suitable for conditions. ‘Bunny boots’, may be an answer.

Hi
I am planning to buy Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 Carbon Fibre Tripod
I have the following camera gear
Nikon D300
Nikon 18-200mm lens
Nikon 105mm Macro
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Nikon 17-55mm f2.8
In future Nikon 70-200mm
Can anyone suggest me which tripod head I should get. I will use it mostly outdoors.
Thanks
Yeah the 322RC2 is an amazing head, it’s really good for quick manipulation, but if you want accuracy one of the pan/tilt ones are much more suited for your purpose. The head you buy not only needs to support your gear but also suit your shooting style and be appropriate for what you shoot.
I tried using a ball head (the 322RC2) for landscape for once, that just felt unnatural, and when you adjusted for one thing, something else was no longer right, just not quite accurate enough.

Cool, I have squirrels outside my house, which makes me wonder if anyone keeps squirrels as pets. Be good to the squirrels they are cute.

Nestled against the curve of Georgia’s coast lie emerald and golden gems, unique barrier islands, and special treasures to be discovered. Lured to these islands by the beauty of moss-draped oaks, rolling sand dunes, and the pleasures of sun and water, visitors enjoy peaceful respite, fun family vacations, and relaxing romantic getaways.
For centuries the beautiful coast of St. Simons Island has enchanted poets, authors, and musicians alike. The ribbon-smooth beaches, the expansive marshes and bicycle paths that wind their way past enormous live oak trees draped in the gray beard of Spanish moss create a unique slice of heaven that provides a hauntingly stunning and romantic setting.
One of the first things you notice is the vast expanses of marsh land, punctuated by small islands, known as hammocks that define the landscape and create the appearance of continuous land between the mainland and St. Simons Island. The rivers and title creeks that flow through them on the way to the sea abound with all sorts of fish, birds and animals and provide a protected coastal nursery of sorts for many creatures from the ocean.
St. Simons Island is the largest of the Golden Isles stretching for 10 miles along the Atlantic Ocean. The Village offers a charming selection of shops and restaurants that range from fine dining establishments to casual outdoor eateries. All of the locals and visitors enjoy Neptune Park named after a slave, Neptune Small and the fishing pier. The island also offers a number of fascinating historical sites such as the Lighthouse, the Coast Guard Station, Fort Frederica, Christ Church and the Bloody Marsh Monument. Other island activities also include golf, fishing, nature walks, biking, canoeing, kayaking and horseback riding.
St. Simons Island is adjacent to Sea Island, which is the third richest zip code in the United States and home of the Cloister, a world- class resort renowned for its luxury and gracious service and site of the recent G-8 Summit. The Cloister has hosted presidents, royalty and other VIPs.
Walking barefoot in the sand, taking a dip in the ocean, sunning in the tropical breeze, listening to the lull of the waves are just a few of the reasons that people are flocking to this island and even better reasons to stay. Georgias coastal treasure, St. Simons Island is the perfect place to linger long after the summer is gone – in a home of your own. It is an ideal place to raise a family, retire or invest.
For purchasing a second home, the island property is a sound and great investment. Current homes for sale in the island range from $150,000 to $10,000,000. Property values have doubled in the last seven years and have shown consistent appreciation of 10 to 15% per year.
St. Simons Island is still a small southern town where locals are known for their friendliness and hospitality. As the local lore states, once you get St Simons Island sand in your shoes, like the tide you will come back again and again.
